Predictions for hairstyles in 2010 are for a wide diversity of looks with short styles being most popular, but some shift towards the versatility offered by longer hair. Styles should be more structured, but simple in execution to suit both formal and casual occasions.

If you looking towards finding a new style for 2010, then the first step to take is to investigate the best portals, sites, and magazines that are reporting the current trends and popular looks. It is likely that most of these will continue into the next year and can provide one with ideas as to what might best suit.

Celebrities are in the forefront of fashion and can be relied upon to show us an array of current trends in hairstyles. There is often a remarkable consensus amongst top fashion models and pop stars with regard to in vogue hair.

The major hair trends of the last few years will likely continue for some time yet, although some with a slight twist. Several short styles have returned and look to be more popular in the next year. The pixie cut and the cute cut are very much in, especially amongst younger women.

Another hot look is the Emo, which seems capable of a variety of interpretations. Evolution of trends will continue, giving new interest to both short and long hairstyles.

By starting now to investigate current trends you can stay ahead of the game. Knowing what’s in right now can help prepare for changes which ever way they may go.

Short styles are very much in at present. They can be cute without being boyish, and elegant and sexy. With creativity and layers, short cuts can be varied and exciting.

Very popular also is razor sharp shags and sides, as well as layers with short hair. These styles give hair volume and a frame to the face. A variation adds pixie style and side bangs to the mix, increasingly displayed by young celebrities.

The shag hairstyle has been around for a few years and is likely to be heavily favoured for a while yet. Bob haircuts are also developing as a fashion and are being used with a variety of cuts and shorter lengths. Bobs are tending to be more structured with shorter bangs. Also angled bobs and layers are combined to give new interpretations of these ideas.

A brief look now into the most favoured hairstyles of the moment gives an insight into the way styles might develop over the next year and the trends that are likely to evolve. Will women’s hair be short or long? Probably both.

All the best,

Avoid these common mistakes and you’ll be able to achieve a sleeklookmuch faster even in the morning rush.

You know what it’s like to do something fast when you really do not have the time for it?

There are several factors that just don’t let you to do it fast.

No matter how hard you try it just won’t work.

On the top of all the harder you try the harder it is.

It’s a simple fact…

It is even harder when it comes to some creative things such as figuring out a great hairstyle for the whole day.

Which will obviously one of the most important things of the day.

You don’t want to be less productive and even grumpy because something is bugging you. For example your hair…

So it is very important to spend some time on it.

But what if you don’t have the time for it?

Because you need to feed the dog, the kids, need to take out the rubbish, prepare food and do the everyday stuff and at the end you’re just too tired to spend the appropriate time on your hair.

However if you know what to do with your hair or what to avoid to make things fast, than you shouldn’t be worry.

So let’s have a look at those tiny little mistakes…

If you want to wash and blow dry your hair when you have little time it’s simply impossible.
Especially when you have long hair, so if you are in a rush you need to avoid those.

You do not need to give up the whole idea though, you can wash your hair but only until the hair is half dried shampoo from your hair completely or drying your hair completely, try washing hair and blow-drying it until the hair is still only half dried, then add a sprit of a frizz control product (for example Schwarzkopf frizz control) (for curly hair) or some styling gel(Shwarzkopf mess up) Run it through your hair with your fingers. By now your hair should be looking messy and big, but that’s exactly how you want it to look, because now that you have the right body and the product control in place

A small tip that could reduce the blow drying time: invest in a professional hairdryer - salon dryers are 3200 watt, and most consumer models are 1800 watt, so you’ll be able to style your hair in half the time

Pin up you hair however you want to, leaving bits of hair dangling around your face and neck.
For straight hair or fine hair pin it up as loosely as possible without it undoing itself.

Ponytail just by parting hair to one side and bring it down closer to your forehead letting it fall naturally.

There is another way which could save you a lot of time when you’re short of it:

Get a haircut that you can add a styling product too and scrunch into a defined shape. Layered hair and short cropped hair are the easiest hair cuts to style on the run, since layers make your hair fall into a shape naturally so all you’ll need to do is add a styling product to keep the layers vibrant, while short cropped hair can be spiked, or smoothed flat and held in place with the aid of a styling product

Something you need to avoid though!

The most common mistake is over-working. Most styles can be created effectively by brushing lightly with a vent brush or simply running your fingers through it. Decide that your hair doesn’t have to look exactly the same every day.

If you do hair straightening at home it can be very harmful to your hair, unless you take into account the following secrets…

It could be very annoying when you’re not 100 % sure that the way you treat your hair is the best for it, isn’t it?

If you are using a straightening iron to straighten your hair it can damage the ends dramatically if you do it in the wrong way, and you don’t want to lose your fabulous hair, do you?

I’m going to tell you exactly what to do to prevent your hair from damages caused by improper use of hair straightening tools and lack of protection.

First of all good tools are essential:

The use of ceramic straightening iron is a must if you straighten your hair often.
Use a blow-dryer with a strong air flow, not just a very hot one. If blow-drying hair straight regularly, use a treatment, weekly, to prevent your hair from drying out and frazzled ends.

Regular deep conditioning of the hair can give it a healthier bounce and shine.
There is a very good product for this from Schwarzkopf called Bonacure Q10.

Use good detangling products and wide-toothed comb for the hair after a straightening treatment. Trimming every month also helps a lot and drink a lot of water.

How to prepare your hair for the straightening?

Always use a protective product when styling your hair straight.
The best for this in my opinion is Osis Slick flattening liquid and the Osis Flatliner.
Once out of the shower, wring hair out until it doesn’t drip anymore, then dry as much as possible with a towel.

Apply a little bit of the straightening liquid before blow drying and in between towel drying. Blow dry by taking sections at a time and with a flat brush- it takes a while to master exactly how to straighten accurately but it’s worth it.

Use a little bit of gel or cream or something to keep it straight and non-frizzy, and shiny. I use the Osis Sparkler for this. I think this product does a very good job in this.

Are you accidentally causing extra problems to your hair, by only washing it?

Today let me tell you a true story which happened to me a couple of years ago.

I went to a hairdresser once and the person who washed my hair asked me if I washed my hair everyday. I said I did, and she said she could tell.

Well as she was not the kindest person I’ve ever met so I didn’t want to cause her „extra work” by explaining me what the hell was she talking about, so I decided to find out myself.

Washing your hair could be trivial compared to the things you do to your hair every day BUT if you want to make your life easier and don’t want to cause extra problems to it consider asking these questions to yourself:

How often do I need to wash my hair?

Let’s say for example you wash your hair 5 times a week.

That’s not too much, isn’t it?

That’s right and not right.

That doesn’t help, does it?

OK let me give you a little insight…

When it comes to the frequency of washig your hair, you have to consider several factors such as the type of your hair.

Obviously you don’t have to wash your hair every day if you have dry and/or curly hair and to be honest you shouldn’t.

If you have normal hair you are allowed to wash your hair up to 5 times a week, but in the summer time this number can go up.

Oily hair can be washed daily, or you can skip some days if you use baby powder to soak up the oils
.

Do I need to use conditioner?

To find out the best answer to this question you have to look at your hair.

If you can shampoo your hair every day and it is still smooth and shiny and moist, the chances are that you can skip the conditioner.

If your hair tends to be coarse and dry on a regular basis, then adding conditioner can help tremendously.

The most important thing is that you really have a very close look at your hair because if you use conditioner on a naturally moist hair it can cause your
hair look greasy and dry your scalp out

How often do I need a conditioner?

Now this is a biggie again because if you get this wrong it can ruin you whole hair, and you might blame something else for it.

If your hair is dry it is a good idea to use conditioner on a regular basis.

This doesn’t mean that you can use it every day, but 3-4 times a week should be enough.

Sometimes you need to give your hair a break from conditioner, otherwise it can start to build up and will actually make your hair dull or coarse.(the effect that I mentioned above).

If you have naturally moist hair than it is your decision, to use conditioner or not, but even if you do use it be aware of the negative effects.

What shampoo do I need to use?

If your hair is healthy and not tinted then regular protein shampoos are fine.

For tinted hair it’s the best to use shampoos that are designed specifically for this type.

This way you can extend the life of the hair colour and also can prevent the damages.

I heard that on some people who prefer using natural shampoos chamomile (for bondes) and the henna shampoo (brunettes) actually worked uite well.

Damaged or fine hair: Use protein shampoo labeled substantive protein. Shampoo should be more than mildly acidic. Or you can rinse your hair following shampoo with white vinegar and water, or lemon and water. This acid rinse will help to restore a smooth cuticle and shine to your hair.

Use a lemon based shampoo if your hair is oily.(but this sometimes not enough, you need to be careful what you eat)

Try alternating shampoos. Use one type once or twice a week and the other once or twice a week. Change brands every few months to keep your hair shiny and full of life.

What is not the correct way to wash my hair?

-When washing hair hot water is bad for hair and strips it of color, so use warm water instead

-Take your time! Don’t be quick! Massage your shampoo on your head for as long as you can; it’s good for the scalp. Make sure all product is washed out of your hair or it will look incredibly dull.

- If your hair is greasy don’t apply conditioner right after shampooing your hair. Shampoo your hair at least twice before you do that

-Don’t try to dry your hair right after washing it instead squeeze as much water from your hair as possible. Blot your hair with a towel to absorb excess water. Never rub as the cuticles can catch on the fibres causing more damage

If you’re experiencing hair loss what is the first thing that comes to your mind?

Panic isn’t it?

You want to stop it whatever it takes, don’t you? But believe me most of the time it’s not the most expensive product that will help

When I started to write today’s article, outside was raining as usual. I don’t know how this affects other people’s mood, but I just do not feel like going out in a weather like this.

And a little bit depressed as well.

Lot of my customers asked me whether the depression could cause hair loss. Well I think yes it could, BUT it is not the only thing that can cause hair loss when you feel depressed.

So before you start to take antidepressant pills you might wanna investigate some other factors, and you definitely have to dig a little bit deeper to find out the real REASON for HAIR LOSS.

You can save a whole lot of frustration, money and time that you would spend otherwise on products that are very good and dandy but they won’t solve the REAL CAUSE OF HAIR LOSS.

OK, what are the CAUSES?

One of the reasons for hair loss could be the hair colouring. If you do it at home you have to be carefully check the ingredients of the product. If it’s full of chemicals than obviously it could be a very good reason for hair loss, but not severe hair loss, but it can cause split ends though.

If you lose more hair than you used to it is recommended to see your doctor to do a blood test to check your thyroid whether it’s working properly or not.

If that’s working fine the next step is to see the dermatologist, who will do some tests to ensure that the reason for hair loss is not in connection with your scalp.

What’s the condition of your scalp? Is it itching or burning perhaps?

One of my customers said once that she thinks that she losing hair because of the hair straightening.

I truly don’t believe that it can cause hair loss but if you do it often it might.

To be honest MISUSING the hair straightening iron can be really dangerous because your hair can take the heat, and then it will just cause brakeage and than hair loss.

But if you use the right products it can definitely help. In one of my previous articles I wrote about this( Risk Free Hair Straightening:Beat the split ends)

So if you wanna find the real cause of the problem you have to exclude the following:

-thyroid disease

-iron shortage

-scalp disease

If you excluded these factors it will be much more easier to find the perfect treatment that will actually work, instead of spending huge amount of money on treatments and drugs that won’t take you anywhere.

This is pretty much like if you were taking sleeping pills for headaches, it will definitely help you to sleep well, but will it stop your headaches?

Take care!

Fringe is an eternal dilemma…

It can make you look much better or it can do the opposite as well. Here are some advice which you should listen to before you decide to go for it.

The fringe have always been an easy and great way to refresh your look.

Easy because it will give you a brand new look without making huge amendments to your hairstyle.

You have a lot of options in terms of shape, length and style and if you’re not satisfied with it at the end than you still can regrow it.

So the risk is minimal but the result can be tremendous if you take into account the following:

In the previous article I mentioned the importance of your face shape when you choosing your hairstyle. This applies to the fringe as well.

If you have an OVAL face then you can choose any kind of fringe all will suit you perfectly. So if you’re bored with your hairstyle you can play with the fringe quite a lot instead of going for a complete restyle.

With ROUND face your options are a little bit less, but no worries if you have a face shape like this you still have quite a few choices.

The most important thing is that you have to avoid the fringes that are highlights the roundness of your face.

In this case the wide fringe is a very bad option, as it will make your face wider.

Choose a fringe that make your face narrower instead. It is the best to choose a fringe that longer on the sides and higher at the top.

If you have SQUARE face I recommend the assymetric fringe.

This will reduce the square effect of your face and will make your face rounder.

You have a lot of fringes to choose from below you can see a few pictures of them:

What is the single and most important thing that will save you from choosing the wrong hairstyles? And of course throwing money out of the window.

One of my clients came to me the other day, and she said she found a very nice hairdo that she wanted me to do for her.

She picked a great hairstyle, but it didn’t suit her at all. I think this has happened to quite a few of us. It might have happened to you once or twice that you picked a great hairstyle but you just couldn't decide whether it will suit you or not.

So you asked some of your friends including your hairdresser but none of them could confirm that it will suit you. If your hairdresser didn't recommend it to you though, that means something, as she might have some understanding of the connection between hairstyle and face shape.

What happens if you still want that hairstyle? You will definitely get it but is that a good decision?

I do not think so. First of all as the hair that you've chosen doesn't fit your face shape it won't fit you. The result of this that you will really unhappy.

And if you really want to impress people you need to change your hairstyle a lot as small changes hardly ever get noticed.

But changing your hairstyle totally is dangerous as well, because the more you change the harder to put it right at the end. I mean you really need to think it over before you decide to make drastic changes (not like Britney Spears with the clipper) to your hairstyle.

But believe me it will be very hard to walk around with a hairstyle that doesn't fit you so you'd rather hide it under a wig like Britney did.

What will save you from this embarrasment?

You need to analyze your face shape. This is the singe and most important factor when it comes to choosing the right hairstyle. You can save a lot of time, frustration, and money if you take into account the following

So let's define your face shape, shall we?

Hold the tape measure on the top of one of your cheekbones, and measure across to the other cheekbone, and write that number down.

Run the tape measure across your face to measure, horizontally, the widest part of your jaw line, and write that number down.

Measure across the widest part of your forehead, generally just above your brow line and below your hair line, and write that number down.

Finally, run the tape measure from the tip of your hair line to the bottom tip of your chin, and write that number down.

Now see the results :

Oval face

Your face length is almost exactly 1 1/2 times longer than the width of your face.Only slightly narrower at the jaw line than at the temples.

Most any hair shape looks good on you. Your perfect features allow you to wear more styles than any other face types. You can wear short,  medium, long hair styles.

You will look best when styling your hair off your face. Avoid wearing your hair style on your face. You’ll lose your face shape behind the hair.

Celebrities with oval face shape: Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Mariah Carey.

Picture
If You look like her You can wear any kind of hairstyle
Rectangular

Your face is longer than wide.Long and slender, about the same width at forehead and just below cheekbones. May have very narrow chin or a very high forehead.

Short to medium lengths is the best. Soft and wispy bangs will shorten the appearance of the length. You want to balance the look of long and slender face.

Fullness at the sides of your face will add width to the look of your face shape.  Avoid too much hair length your face will look even longer.

When your hair gets past your shoulders there is a good chance it is doing you more harm than good.  The fringe is quite a good idea for this face shape.

Celebrities with rectangular faces: Gwyneth Paltrow, Janet Jackson.
Picture
The fringe fits Gwyneth quite well
Round

Your face is just about as wide as it is long.Widest point is at the cheeks and ears. Try hairstyles with fullness and height at the crown.

By layering the top to achieve fullness and keeping the rest of the cut relatively close to the face, your shape will appear longer and narrower.

Because the widest part of your face is at the cheeks and ears, you need to avoid having the fullness of the cut here as it will make your face appear wider. So the solution for this can be a longer hairstyle.

Celebrities with round faces: Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore
Picture
The short hairstyle wouldn't be a good idea for her
Square

Your forehead and jaw line widths are close to equal. Strong, square jaw line and usually an equally square hairline. Short-to-medium length hair. Wispy bangs. You want to soften the square look of your face with layers and wispy looks around the face.

Height at the crown will elongate your symmetrical shape. If your hair is straight you may want to consider a body wave, as this will achieve a nice balance to the straight features of your face shape.

Make sure in styling that you achieve a some roundness to the shape and some height at the crown or bangs.

Celebrities with squre face shape: Demi Moore, Sandra Bullock.
Picture
The waves around Demi's face was a good choice
Heart

You have wide cheekbones and/or forehead and narrow jaw. Face is wide at the temples, narrowing to a small delicate chin.

Try chin-length or longer styles. A chin-length bob is great on your face shape! This creates a balanced look by giving fullness where you need it. Avoid short styles that emphasize upper face. Avoid height at the crown.

Celebrities with heart faces: Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Love Hewitt
